1909
A magnificent Antique solid Silver Nef made by German Silversmith Berthold Muller mirroring the historically traditional style of Nefs. This is a particularly large example of a Nef - a Sailing Boat or Galleon Ship shown in full sail. The Ship is hand chased and features an incredible attention to detail. The Ship's hull shows an array of Cannon extended and ready to fire, while sailors crew the deck in period uniforms brandishing guns. The ship has three towering masts with billowing sails and crows nests on each. The Nef rests on four wheels and the deck lifts off the hull revealing an open compartment or space.

The first known Nefs appeared on tables as early as the mid-1200s and were used to contain salt, spices or tableware. By the 14th Century Nefs had become more and more ornate. There are example of Nefs in institutional Collections around the world including London's V & A Museum.
