Rare Antique Sterling Silver Wager Cup / Loving / Marriage Cup 1901

A rare Antique Sterling Silver Wager Cup in the shape of a male nobleman. Known as Wager Cups, Marriage Cups or Loving Cups, these vessels have existed since the 16th Century and are designed so that a bride and groom an both drink from the cup at the same time without spilling. These Wager Cups became popular again in the Victorian Era, echoing the 16th Century Designs usually of Noble Women in period dress.
This Antique Silver Loving Cup is unusual in that is it in the shape of a Man, as well as having a rare stand showing his feet for the Cup to rest on. A wonderful and inspired version of a classic historical item.
Made in Germany in c. 1900 and hallmarked with an English Import Mark for 1901. Made by Berthold Muller.
