A rare and highly unusual pair of George III Sterling Silver Sauce Tureens, distinguished by their elegant oval form and ingenious construction. The shape is more commonly associated with contemporary covered sugar bowls, but have been skilfully adapted to accommodate removable fitted silver liners. Designed to keep sauces or gravies warm at the table, the liners sit within the main bodies of the tureens, allowing the lower compartments to be filled with hot water. The Body of the Sauce Tureens and the Lids each have a small crest engraved.
