A magnificent pair of vintage Solid Silver Nefs / Model Sailing Ships. Modelled after the early continental Silver Nefs made from the 13th Century onwards its is unusual to have such an monumental pair and this set makes for an impressive display as a table centrepiece or as permanent display in the home.

This pair of Nefs feature elaborately chased hulls embellished with scrolling and foliate decoration along the sides and sterns. Each Ship has multiple masts with detailed rigging and billowing sails rendered in sculptural silver. This matched pair is almost identical except for some wood patterning on the deck of one and some extra crewmen. As a pair these Nefs make up an incredibly impressive set. Each Ship is set on small ornamental wheels, a traditional feature of Silver Nefs, originally allowing them to be rolled along a banquet table where they were used as table centrepieces often filled with salt. The top of each Nef lifts off, again as is traditional, to allowed storage of salt or other table items in the hull.

Continental Solid Silver Nefs. One features an import mark for London in 1927 and imported by Adolph Barsach Davis.
