An Antique Victorian Silver and Cut Glass Claret Jug with an oval form. This clear oval cut glass is engraved with floral and foliate motifs, allowing light to refract richly through the surface. Encasing the upper portion of the glass is a lavish silver mount chased and repoussé with scrolling acanthus, flowers, and a prominent classical mask at the front. This mask is repeated in three dimensions below the spout and the jug has an ornate chased neck and hinged lid. The Jug stands on a chased spread foot and has a pierced floral band around the centre of the body.
