An impressive antique Irish silver vase or vessel in the shape of a traditional Irish silver Mether mead drinking cup. This oversized Victorian Mether Cup has a square form with rounded corners and with a handle on each of the four sides.

Inspired by the design of communal drinking vessels as far back as the 10th century, these square Mether Cups have been made in a wide range of materials from wood and pottery to these later designs in sterling silver

Made in London, England in 1874 by Francis Boone Thomas.

This Mether cup is in excellent condition with no damage.

The Victorian Mether Cup has Full English Hallmarks and Stamped Thomas 153 New Bond Street. The Makers Mark is slightly rubbed.
