Antique Indian Colonial Silver Jug made in Calcutta, India in c. 1860 Beer Pimms

A magnificent Antique 19th Century Indian Silver Jug. This Jug has a tapered cylindrical form embellished with a cast applied band of lion heads holding impressive swags of wheat or barley which decorate the body of the jug. The Jug has an impressive scroll handle decorated with acanthus leaves. The inscription on the jug reads 'Presented by messrs W. H Jones & Co to the Behar Mounted Rifles won by Rowland Hudson April 1875'.
Although the Jug might have originally been designed for beer it has a pierced strainer over the spot and the interior is gilded making it perfect for Pimms or cocktails as well as a water jug.

This Indian Silver Jug was made in c. 1875 in Calcutta, India by Alan & Hayes
