A pair of antique Victorian silver jugs / Ewers in the classic Cellini style, inspired by the 16th century designs of Italian Silversmith Benvenuto Cellini. The classically shaped Silver Jug is embellished with chased ornate designs repeated around in bands around the foot and body of Jug. The spout features a chased face surrounded by foliate designs and the back of the neck features a complementary chased face. The handle features a thumb piece shaped like the head and torso of a woman. The hinged lid on the also features a chased image.

The pair of Cellini Jugs were given as presentation pieces and bare the description - 1863. Presented to Herbert Irving Bell Esqre. By the shareholders of The Mauritius Marine Insurance Company in testimony of their esteem and their sense of his many services to the company of which he was the originator, and the prosperity of which since its foundation in 1851, his able and zealous discharge of the duties of its secretary have so greatly contributed.

Made in Sheffield, England in 1863 by Creswick & Co.
