ANTIQUE GEORGE III GEORGIAN STERLING SILVER TEA URN / SAMOVAR 1808

A magnificent Antique George III Sterling Silver Tea Urn with a hemispherical body supported by four impressive claw feet with shell capitals. The Tea Urn stands on a shaped base supported by four semi circular chased fluted feet. The rim of the Body and Base is embellished with a chased stylised leaf pattern pattern. The upper rim of the body has a traditional beaded patterned band. The Tea Urn has a half fluted pattern and is topped with and impressive leaf finial. The Body has a pair of substantial reeded handles. The spout of the Urn has a stylised eagle head at the end and a creamed topped lever. The back of the urn bares a engraved inscription At a Meeting of the Mayor Sheriffs and Commonality of the City of Cork Assembled in the Court of d’Oyer hundred at the Guildhall on the fourth Day of October 1808. It was unanimously Resolved That this Piece of Plate be presented to Thomas Harding Esq. R our late worthy and revered Chief Magistrate as a Tribute of Gratitude and Esteem for the Dignity with which he supported the Bank and for the Zeal, Ability and Integrity with which he discharged the important Duties and of his Office During his Mayoralty by order of the Court Wm Jones.
