ANTIQUE GEORGE II STERLING SILVER EWER / BEER ALE JUG 1752 GEORGIAN JUG

A rare George II Georgian Silver Jug in a classic balluster shape. The Jug stands on a wide circular spread foot and has a substantial scroll handle topped by an acanthus lead. The Jug is embellished with beautiful floral, swag & bow engraving. The Jug was presented to Thomas de Grey, 2nd Baron Walsingham by King George III. The Jug was made in 1752 in the reign of King George II and is inscribed with the initials & crown of George III. The opposite side of the jug has an engraved Royal Coat of Arms. Thomas de Grey served as Groom of the Bedchamber to George III before inheriting his title in 1781. He later serves as Vice Treasurer of Ireland and joint Post-Master General, as well as serving on the privy council and Chairman of Committees in the House of Lords. This Jug was made in 1752 in London by Gabriel Sleath & Francis Crump. Approx. Weight - 1712g / 55oz. Approx. Height - 31.5cm Approx. Width - 25.5cm
