An Antique Victorian Silver Gilt Claret Jug or Wine Jug featuring a clear glass body in a magnificent Solid Silver Mount gilded to a beautiful, rich gold. The tall, elegant Claret Jug stands on a wide spread foot with an elegant knopped pedestal. The Top of the Jug is connected to the foot with elegant strap work topped with chased faces. The jug has a spectacular scroll handle embellished with the classical figure of a woman holding grapes out towards a cherub. Below the spout the jug has a ornate chased face in an oval cartouche. The jug has a sturdy stopper topped with a grape finial.
This Claret Jug was made in 1857 in London by John Figg.
