A magnificent Victorian Sterling Silver Armada Jug. This Antique Wine Jug is in the classic baluster shape of a traditional Armada Jug and this example is of particularly substantial size. The entire body of the jug decorated with an ornate chased and applied designs of floral and foliate patterns. Each side of the Jug has a large shaped cartouche – one blank and one with and engraved crest. Either side of each cartouche shows a winged classical figure with arms outstretched across the top of the cartouches. The Jug stands on a spread pedestal food and has an impressive scroll handle with a mechanical mechanism that is squeezed to open the lid. The underside of the spout also has a plain shaped cartouche. The hinged lid has an intricate finial.
This Antique Armada Jug is a truly magnificent piece of Silver.
