A magnificent antique French silver gilt mounted inkstand with a glass base. The inkstand is created to mirror a baroque or French formal garden, with the gilt & enamel clock in place of water feature. The Clock has a mirror below it and is embellised with medieval style dolphins to further this illusion. The inkstand is surrounded by a border with classical figures mirroring marble garden sculptures and the glass base is partly frosted to imitate flower beds. The form of the inkstand is stepped and the inkwells stand as potted plants with birds on the hinged lids. The inkwells have removable glass inkstands. The clock has its original key.
