A magnificent George II Georgian Silver Swing Handled Cake Basket. This exceptionally heavy weight Cake basket is a particularly good example, being of substantial weight and wonderful design. The Basket stands on four cast feet with a face on the terminal of each foot. The rim of the basket has a shell and scroll design with a reclining classical figure on each end. The Swing Handle features a finely modelled face just above the hinges of the handle. The Sides of the basket have a delicate pierced pattern while the interior base and sides also feature ornate engraved patterning. The centre of the interior has an engraved crest within an ornate cartouche.
